Nikolaos Lampropoulos Wins WSOP Paradise $25K Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller for $871,600

Nikolaos Lampropoulos has won his first WSOP bracelet after winning Event #5: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller at WSOP Paradise. Lampropoulos defeated American Dan Shak heads-up to win the $871,600 first-place prize and the WSOP gold bracelet. Unfortunately for Shak, it is the third time he finished runner-up in a WSOP bracelet event and the second time in 2023, after taking second in the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Championship in Las Vegas.

The Greek poker player entered WSOP Paradise with more than $764,000 in live tournament earnings, according to The Hendon Mob. Lampropoulos had only two six-figure scores prior to this win when he finished fourth in an event at the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona for €208,000, while earlier this year, he finished runner-up in an event at The Grand Big Wrap PLO for €107,700. With this victory, Lampropoulos now sits fifth overall on the Greece All-Time Money List with more than $1,635,000 in earnings.

With WSOP Paradise in full swing from the Atlantis Paradise Island, the first non-Hold'em event took center stage as 140 entrants took a seat in Event #5: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller to create a prize pool of $3,430,000 in this two-day event. Day 1 ended with 32 players remaining and Michael Moncek holding the chip as just 21 players finished in the money. The action was quick to begin Day 2 play as PGT regulars Chris Brewer, Shaun Deeb, Adam Hendrix, Sean Troha, Chino Rheem, and Alex Foxen all were eliminated prior to the money. Moncek eliminated Jeffrey Davoud on the money bubble before a string of eliminations included Stephen Chidwick (20th), Sean Winter (19th), Ioannis Angelou-Konstas (16th), Chad Eveslage (15th), and Ren Lin (12th) before Matt Glantz was eliminated on the final table bubble.

As the final nine returned from dinner break, Isaac Haxton fell in ninth place after he ran into the pocket aces of Nick Schulman before Yuri Dzivielevski exited in eighth place after his top pair and flush draw was run down by Lampropoulos' bottom pair that improved to two pair. Matthew Wantman was eliminated in seventh place when his overpair couldn't improve against the two pair of Imad Derwiche before a three-way all-in would see Moncek eliminated in sixth as Shak tripled up after spiking a two-outer on the river.

Schulman was eliminated next in fifth place when he ran into Tyler Brown's aces with double-suited cards. Brown would fall next when he was all-in with pair, gutshot, and flush draw against Derwiche's top set. The board bricked out, and the tournament was down to the final three players. Derwiche was eliminated in third place after he was all-in on the flop with a wheel against Lampropoulos' overpair and backdoor flush draw. The backdoor flush came through, and Derwiche fell in third place to leave Lampropoulos heads-up with Shak holding a near three-to-one chip lead. Heads-up play didn't last too long as Shak was all-in with two pair and a gutshot against Lampropoulos' same two pair and a flush draw. The flush came in on the river, and Shak was eliminated in second place, while Lampropoulos was crowned the champion and awarded the $871,600 first-place prize and his first WSOP bracelet.

Dan Shak and Nick Schulman Make Moves Up The PGT Leaderboard

Following Nikolaos Lampropoulos' first PGT victory, he climbs into 95th on the PGT leaderboard with 523 PGT points, but it is his heads-up opponent Dan Shak that benefitted the most from the Event #5 results. Shak now sits in 51st place on the PGT leaderboard with 832 PGT points and is only 169 PGT points from being inside the Top 40, which would earn him a seat in the PGT Championship $1,000,000 Freeroll on January 9-10, 2024.

Tyler Brown climbs to 103rd on the PGT leaderboard with 491 PGT points, while Nick Schulman strengthens his position in the Top 40 as he moves to 24th place with 1,240 PGT points. Matthew Wantman now sits in 64th place with 703 PGT points, while Isaac Haxton extends his lead in first place to 252 PGT points ahead of Chris Brewer.

Players that cashed outside of the Event #5 final table but reinforced their position on the PGT leaderboard include Stephen Chidwick (4th with 2,164 PGT points), Ren Lin (6th with 1,748 PGT points), Sean Winter (18th with 1,301 PGT points), Chad Eveslage (129th with 426 PGT points), Biao Ding (176th with 314 PGT points), and Ioannis Angelou-Konstas (197th with 280 PGT points).
