Isaac Kempton Wins PGT Sprint Event #2: $5,100 No-Limit Hold'em

The inaugural PGT Sprint series continued on Thursday, November 2, at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 52-entrant field created a prize pool of $260,000 that paid the final eight players. Isaac Kempton claimed the title and the $83,200 first-place prize when he defeated Maxx Coleman in heads-up play. Kempton has now moved to 26th place on the PGT leaderboard with 1,116 PGT points and now has three wins and more than $1,432,000 in PGT earnings for 2023.

Mark Ioli was eliminated on the money bubble when his king-queen fell to king-seven, and the final eight players were all in the money. Kempton bubbled in Event #1 but bounced back and came into the final table fifth in chips. Justin Sternberg was the first to go at the final table in eighth place when his flopped set became no good against a turned straight, and after a couple of doubles, Brian Rast was eliminated in seventh when he ran ace-ten into ace-king.

Kempton then doubled through Dylan DeStefano in a massive pot when he got suited ace-king in preflop against aces and turned a flush. DeStefano was left as the short stack, but he quickly ran his stack all the way back up the leaderboard and eliminated Ryan Riess in sixth place when his ace-king held against Riess' ace-ten. DeStefano would continue his rampage into the chip lead and he eliminated John Andress in fifth place when his six-four improved against ace-queen.

Jesse Lonis was the next to go in fourth place when he got his short stack in with an open-ended straight draw but failed to improve, and DeStefano held nearly two-thirds of the chips when three-handed play began. The three players played for nearly an hour as Coleman and Kempton each doubled, before Kempton took the lead when he got his chips in with aces on a jack-nine-eight flop and held against DeStefano's queen-jack. Coleman then doubled to leave DeStefano short-stacked, and DeStefano was soon eliminated in third place.

When heads-up play began, Kempton held more than a three-to-one lead and slowly added to his stack through small pots. Eventually, Coleman got his eight remaining big blinds in with suited ten-seven against Kempton's jack-six. Coleman failed to improve and he was eliminated as runner-up, while Kempton was crowned the champion of PGT Sprint Event #2: $5,100 No-Limit Hold'em.
