The domestic tournament schedule has slowed down over the last few weeks and while a majority of this month’s big events are happening in far-away places, the biggest US-based poker series through the rest of this month is taking place in Atlantic City.

The Borgata Spring Poker Open boasts a 21-event schedule, with over $3,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools to get a piece of. Even though there is plenty to go around during the 20-day series, the densely populated Tri-State Area, one Borgata is smack dab in the middle of, also has a half dozen different sporting options within a few hours from the poker action.

New York Yankees & New York Mets

The City That Never Sleeps is just over two hours from Atlantic City, which doesn’t sleep much either, and there are a handful of ways to get to Yankees Stadium and Citi Field.

Both teams have home stands throughout the SPO series, with the Mets facing three divisional rivals over the next week. The Philadelphia Phillies, we’ll get to them in a second, take a quick trip up I-95 tonight and tomorrow, before the Washington Nationals come into town for the weekend. Then the Atlanta Braves come north from April 25-27.

That’s when the Yankees, who have been white hot, come home after a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox. They’ll play six games against the Baltimore Orioles, who lead the American League East, and Toronto Blue Jays from April 28-May 3.

Philadelphia Phillies

A trip across the state of New Jersey puts you in Philadelphia in just over an hour and while the Flyers and 76ers both missed out on the playoffs, the Phillies haven’t been mathematically eliminated just yet. That will likely come at some point this summer but for now, the last place Phillies are playing to keep it close in the National League East. After their series in New York, they get the Atlanta Braves at home from April 21-23 and then the Miami Marlins come up for a three-game series from April 25-27. Citizens Bank Park may not be Yankee Stadium but if you trust the process, it might feel half as cool.

Major League Soccer

As someone who spent the first 25 years of his life living and playing soccer in and around New Jersey, I know how popular the sport and Major League Soccer is to the Tri-State area. The region has three teams and they are all playing throughout the SPO series.

New York City FC, who plays their games at Yankee Stadium, opens the slate with a home game against Orlando City SC on April 23rd.

The New York Red Bull then play host to the Chicago Fire on April 29th and despite their name, the Red Bull play their games in Harrison, NJ.

If you want to kill two MLS birds with one stone though, and want to cross the Delaware River again, the May 6th match between the Red Bull and Philadelphia Union is for you.
