Philip Shing Holds Big Lead as Six Remain in PokerGO Cup Event #3

The 2023 PokerGO Cup rolled on with Event #3: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the final table of six is set to be streamed.

Philip Shing went on a rampage near the end of the night when he accumulated a large number of chips and eliminated several players, including popular content creator Ethan "Rampage" Yau. Shing ultimately bagged a stack of 4,455,000, representing nearly 40% of the chips in play when the night came to an end.

Ed Sebesta (1,755,000), Cary Katz (1,610,000), Nick Schulman (1,560,000), and Adrian Mateos (1,520,000) are all tightly condensed in the middle of the pack, while Kristen Foxen (350,000) sits at the bottom of the leaderboard but will still have room for a run.

Foxen and Katz have both made the final table for the second consecutive tournament. In Event #2, Foxen finished third and Katz finished sixth. Katz is also the only player to have achieved the feat of cashing in all three events of the series thus far.

The 90-entrant field created a prize pool of $900,000, and the top 13 finishers earned a piece of it. Jeff Platt made a deep run but was cut down near the bubble when he was racing Katz, but Katz flopped quads to leave Platt drawing dead. Phong "Turbo" Nguyen was then eliminated on the money bubble when he got his short stack in with suited ten-nine against pocket tens and failed to improve.

Sergio Fernandez (13th), Nick Petrangelo (12th), Andrew Lichtenberger (11th), Robert Chorlian (10th), and Ethan "Rampage" Yau (9th) all made it into the money but fell short of the unofficial final table. Yau's ace-eight couldn't hold against Shing's ace-seven, and for the second consecutive night, he just missed out on the streamed final table following his seventh-place finish in Event #2.

Eight players then converged on a single table with Shing as the clear leader. Farid Jattin scored a double early on and was primed for another when his pockets jacks were against pocket nines, but a nine on the flop forced him to exit in eighth place. Christopher Frank was the final casualty of the night when he ran his short stack into Shing's superior kicker, and the six remaining players bagged to return for the streamed final table.

The remaining players have each locked up $54,000, but all eyes will be on the $216,000 first-place prize, trophy, and 216 PGT points that accompany the title of Event #3 champion.
