Paul Hizer Tops 13,565-Entry Field To Win WSOP Colossus

Paul Hizer won his first-ever live poker tournament on Tuesday, taking down the $400 Colossus event at the 2022 World Series of Poker for a career-best $414,490. Hizer topped a field of 13,565 entries to get the win.

At the end of Day 3, Hizer was second in chips between Sam Laskowitz, and it was these two players who found themselves as the last two standing after Jordan Pelon busted in third place. Laskowitz had Hizer out-chipped to start the heads-up battle, but then Hizer doubled into the lead with ace-queen against Laskowitz's pocket threes.

The two kept battling from there. Eventually, Hizer made a brave call with just king high to pick off a bluff from Laskowitz and take a commanding lead. With Laskowitz short, Hizer soon finished the job when his ace-three held up against Laskowitz's eight-two.

The 2022 WSOP Colossus event attracted 13,565 entries with just two starting flights. The enormous field was whittled down to the final seven for Tuesday's fourth and final day of tournament action.

Anthony Rutter bowed out first on the final day, then it was Jeffrey Loiacono finishing in sixth place. After that, Luong Quach was knocked out in fifth, then James Scott busted in fourth.

 

Laskowitz then eliminated Jordan Pelon in third place to set up the heads-up battle with Hizer.

 

The day ultimately belonged to Hizer, though, and the player from the United Kingdom picked up his first-ever live tournament victory and first-ever WSOP gold bracelet.
