At both the macro and micro levels, poker is a journey. Each hand, each orbit, each tournament, each series, each career is a journey within itself and undoubtedly, the seven-day journey towards the World Series of Poker Main Event final table is the most important journey any poker player could hope to make.

Alex Foxen’s journey in the 2017 edition of the Main Event is just starting but his journey through the World Series of Poker until now has proven that the former Boston College football player is one of the best young players in the world.

Foxen has 14 cashes this summer, including three final table finishes. Most recently, Foxen took 3rd in a 1,400-player $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event earlier this week. In total, Foxen has cashed for over $180,000 and has pushed his career earnings near $800,000, which adds to an online resume that accounts for nearly $2 million in online tournament earnings.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have some deep runs and a lot of fun sweats,” Foxen said before the Day 1A dinner break, adding, “I haven’t been able to close anything out yet but I’m still really happy with the results so far and just going to keep the momentum moving forward in the Main.”

That momentum started well before Foxen made the journey to Las Vegas for the World Series.

Last year, Foxen had a few other close calls and was having some frustrations about not being able to close. That led Foxen to seek out coaching and he has been working with Chance Kornuth ever since.

“I’m working with Chance for a reason.” Foxen said, adding, “The way he sees the game has been an awesome added perception and has helped my game develop a lot.”

Their work has taken his game to the next level and Foxen has put in a career-best 2017 campaign at the WSOP. Thanks to a high quantity and high quality results, Foxen is currently in the top-ten of the WSOP Player of the Year race.

A deep run in the Main Event could vault Foxen near the top of that leader board heading into WSOP Europe and Foxen is excited about the chance to compete for one of poker’s highest honors.

“That is something you dream of the first time you come and see the faces on the wall.” Foxen said in reference to the Player of the Year banners that hang throughout the Pavilion Room. “This is my third summer here and it is pretty much a dream come true to have a shot at it. I can just do my best and make something happen to give myself a shot going into Europe.”

Foxen has made a lot of things happen this summer and as he continues to play through Day 1A of the Main Event, no one would be surprised if his 2017 World Series of Poker journey was far from over.
