Dylan Weisman Captures 3rd PGT Title of the Year in Event #6: $10,100 Pot-Limit Omaha

 

Dylan Weisman started the final table of Event #6: $10,100 Pot-Limit Omaha presented by PLO Mastermind with nearly forty percent of the chips in play but had to survive a wild ride full of ups and downs, eventually defeating Lautaro Guerra heads-up to capture the $229,500 first-place prize. 

Guerra started the final table with a bang when he turned a full house to send Stefan Christopher out the door in sixth place for $42,500 on the days second-hand as he inched closer to Weisman at the top of the leaderboard. 

Start-of-day short stack Jordan Spurlin then scored two doubles in a row, the second of which sent reigning WSOP Player of the Year Ian Matakis to the bottom of the counts. Weisman would finish him off moments later in fifth place for $59,500 when he flopped a straight against Matakis' pocket kings.

From there, it became the Spurlin show, as he lost 90% of his stack to Guerra when his rivered flush was bested by Guerra's rivered full house, dropping him just above his starting stack. 

Spurlin would not go quietly into the night, however. He would go on to score a double-up and two triple-ups four-handed, but it was the second of the two that really changed the momentum in his favor. 

Spurlin would find himself in a three-way all-in pre-flop for roughly 800,000 with single-suited aces against the pocket jacks of Weisman and the double-suited Ace-King of fellow short-stack Isaac Kempton. Spurlin would flop a set of aces and river a full house to scoop the pot, move to over two million in chips, and leave Kempton with just 60,000. Weisman then rivered a wheel on the next hand, sending Kempton to the payout desk in fourth place for $76,500, but all the momentum was in Spurlin's favor. 

Weisman would see his chip lead vanish completely when he paid off a big river bet with two pair against Guerra's flopped broadway. He fell to the bottom of the mountain entirely after Spurlin scored his sixth overall double of the final table through the one-time chip leader. 

Despite the tumble, Weisman quickly re-found his footing as he scored a pair of doubles, one each from Guerra and Spurlin, to send the players into level 19 nearly dead, even in chips. 

As level 19 began, Wiseman found his third double in a row, this time through Spurlin, as he climbed all the way back to within striking distance of Guerra's chip lead. 

On hand after handing Weisman the double, Spurlin's rollercoaster of a day would come to an end in brutal fashion when he got it all in for his last 1,700,000 with pocket kings and Weisman's ace-king-queen-duece with spades.

A duck on the flop and turn plus two spades on board left Spurlin drawing to just the king of clubs in his effort to score a seventh double of the final table, but fate was not on his side as he bricked and headed to the payout desk in third place for $106,250. 

Thanks to the elimination, Weisman once again held the chip lead, heading into heads-up with Guerra. After a brief feeling-out period, he saw his chip lead evaporate when Guerra's flopped two pair picked off his ill-timed ten-high bluff. 

Weisman would have the last laugh, however, as he would river a full house against Guerra's turned jack-high straight to double back into the chip lead and then closed out the tournament when he flopped a six-high straight against Guerra's over pair and nut flush draw to send the inaugural PGT PLO Series Champion to the payout desk in second place for $148,750.

Weisman moves to the Top of the Leaderboards

Event #6 in the third iteration of the PGT PLO Series attracted 85 entrants, creating a prize pool of $850,00, with the top 13 players finishing in the money and taking home PGT Points. 

Event Champion Weisman picked up his third cash of the series and, with it, 230 more points, and now sits three points ahead of Event #4 Champion Samuli Sipila, who picked up his second cash of the series in Event #6 to further distance himself from third-place Ronald Keijzer. 

The win also gives Weisman 1,015 total points on the year for the overall leaderboard, and he is the first player to crack the 1,000-point barrier after picking up his third tournament win of the year. David Coleman also has three wins through the first three months of the 2024 PGT season but sits 78 points behind Weisman for the overall lead. 

Moving away from the overall series leaderboard and looking squarely at the series' top ten runner-up, Guerra also picked up his third cash and now sits in fourth place with 226 points, ten points ahead of Event #2 champion Eelis Parrsinen who also picked up his third series cash with an eleventh place finish. 

Fellow final tableists Kempton and Christopher picked up their second cashes of the series and moved into the top ten of the leaderboard, but Christopher holds the edge and sits in sixth place with 199 points, nine points clear of Kempton. 

Rounding out the leaderboard are a pair of event winners, Allan Le and Daniel Negreanu, and Bryce Yockey, who has four cashes in six events. However, none of the trio picked up points in Event #6, leaving work to be done with four events to go in the race for the PGT Passport.
