WSOP Winner's Circle: Klein Goes Fourth and Blake's in Heaven

Three more WSOP bracelet winners won events they’ll never forget last night, as Loren Klein, Michael Blake and Aristeidis Moschonas all grabbed some gold jewelry to go with magical memories of summer 2019. Let’s tell you about it.

KLEIN WINS FOUR IN FOUR

Loren Klein joined the heavyweight poker icons of history in sealing his fourth WSOP bracelet in the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet event. With Mike Sexton in the running to make it 30 years between bracelets (something which would have been a record), that possibility was extinguished when the popular poker legend exited first at the final table. Klein didn’t lead, of course, that was Ryan Hughes, who was hoping to beat his runner-up finish in the same event last year. In fact, Klein was dwarfed by everyone in the chipcounts entering the final table, having just 95,000 chips compared to Hughes’ 1.2 million.

That deficit was turned around over the course of a rollercoaster final table which saw Hughes and Klein enter heads-up almost level. Klein was able to get the win, however, condemning Hughes to a piece of poker history he may not have wanted at the start of the day; he has finished as runner-up in both the last two years of this event. Maybe third-time lucky next summer will be the charm for Ryan Hughes, because it was Loren Klein’s day in the sun, as he outlasted a 218-strong field to win $127,808 and his fourth WSOP gold bracelet.

BLAKE TAKES DOWN SUPER SENIORS

William Blake conquered the $1,000-entry Super Seniors Event, ending the only one in his seat from a record-breaking field of 2,650 players who have contributed to an amazing event this week at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. Winning $359,863 and the bracelet, Blake came into the day as chipleader and started the day as he meant to go on, busting ant=other player as he sent players to the final table with his chip lead well established.

With double WSOP bracelet winner Barry Schulman hanging in there for the early levels, he then went on a tear and would end as runner-up, despite Cary Marshall being dominant for much of the latter stages. But it was Blake who would take the crown and deny Schulman a third bracelet in Las Vegas.

THE MOSCHONAS MIRACLE

Aristeidis Moschonas achieved the near-impossible on the way to winning his maiden WSOP bracelet on Thursday night. Having been down to less than a big blind early in the $600 Mixed NLH/PLO Deepstack, Moschonas parlayed that position into glory as he defeated Dn Matsuzuki heads-up to claim the win and $194,759 as top prize. The Greek player saw chipleader Adam LAphere and German crusher Rainer Kempe both fall by the wayside in 7th and 4th places respectively to claim his first bracelet and a memorable night in the Rio.
