Ben Lamb came into this World Series of Poker Main Event final table as the most experienced player but despite a tournament resume that includes WSOP bracelets and Player of the Year honors, Lamb also came in as the shortest stack. As Antonio Esfandiari said when the ESPN broadcast begun at 6:00 PM PT, that meant that Lamb had to make a move and he made his almost immediately.

In the fourth hand of the night, another short stack, Jack Sinclair opened the button to 1,600,000 and after Ben Lamb moved all-in from the big blind, Sinclair called to put the former November Niner at risk. Lamb held A9 and was in trouble against Sinclair’s A♣Q.

The board ran out 6♣543♣10 and Lamb was the first man down from the WSOP Main Event final table. Lamb earned $1 million for his 9th place finish and Poker Central caught up to the former Player of the Year after his elimination.

“The plan was to basically pick up a hand against Jack, I thought he was going to be raising, so I jammed. Little over twenty bigs, I felt great about it but when he snap called, I was pretty sure I was dead to three outs.” Lamb said.

The high stakes professional also said, “I went for the win, I was gonna go for the win but I didn’t get the opportunity to build that stack up.”

Lamb came back with tons of work to do if he wanted to play for the win this year but after notching a 9th place finish, and a 3rd place result in 2011, Lamb again proved why he is one of the best players in the world.

The WSOP Main Event continues live on PokerGO and ESPN.
