Through the first few days of the U.S. Poker Open, three players have won battles, but the outcome of the war is still to be decided. That is because the USPO Championship trophy doesn’t go to the player that starts the fastest or was the most successful through the first few events of the series. The USPO Championship trophy will go to the winningest player throughout the series, meaning that the war won’t be over until the $50,000 NLH Main Event concludes.

If Stephen Chidwick continues to dominate the U.S. Poker Open though, the British High Roller could lock up USPO Championship honors well before the series concludes this weekend. Chidwick already has three cashes during the USPO, including a victory in Event #3. The $374,000 score for that $25,000 High Roller win, plus a cash in the opening $10K event, has put him at the top of the USPO Championship standings.

That leading number is also going to increase thanks to back-to-back final table appearances. Chidwick returns to PokerGO for the Event #4 $25,000 Mixed Game Championship final table on Tuesday, in the middle of the pack in a lineup that includes Isaac Haxton, Benjamin Pollak, and Phil Hellmuth. While it is impossible to know where Chidwick will finish, it is impossible for any other competitor to pass him.

That means that no matter what happens at the Event #4 final table, Stephen Chidwick will hold the overall lead at the midway point of the U.S. Poker Open. Daniel Negreanu is also guaranteed a spot in the top-five, thanks to back-to-back cashes in Event #3 and Event #4 that pushed his overall earnings near $225,000.

Who joins Chidwick and Negreanu in the top-five remains to be seen.
