The 2018 Poker Masters is officially underway. Over the next week, the world’s best will compete across seven High Roller events for the title of Poker Masters champion. The Poker Masters Purple Jacket awaits and “Today at the Poker Masters” will take you through the highest stakes week of the year with daily updates from the PokerGO Studio.
Ali Imsirovic was an afterthought before Wednesday’s Event 5 final table. When Hall of Famers, Triple Crown runner-ups, high stakes legends, and Super High Roller Bowl champions fill out a lineup, High Roller newcomers tend to slip through the cracks. Imsirovic didn’t slip though. Instead, the young American held his footing and then beat Daniel Negreanu, Jason Koon, Jake Schindler, Brian Rast, and Ben Yu for the Event 5 title.
A career-best score and a #PokerMasters win vaults @aliImsirovic into Purple Jacket contention! High Roller newcomer beats tough $25K final table for $462K.

If Poker Masters fans thought that was the last they’d think of Imsirovic during the highest stakes week of the year, they were wrong. A day removed from a career-best score, Imsirovic returns to PokerGO as an overwhelming Event 6 $50,000 No Limit Hold’em final table chip leader.
A similarly stacked field, minus a Hall of Famer, again surrounds Imsirovic.
Justin Bonomo makes his first PokerGO appearance since overtaking Daniel Negreanu on poker’s all-time money list. Bonomo comes back second in chips, but is well off Imsirovic’s astounding chip lead. Jake Schindler, who is also at back-to-back final tables, returns just behind the 2018 record breaker. Schindler has had tons of High Roller Triple Crown close calls over the last two years and will need a podium finish today and another deep $100,000 Main Event result to avoid another.
The rest of the lineup features Koray Aldemir, Seth Davies, and Sam Soverel. All three will will open their Poker Masters accounts in Event 6.
Aldemir tries to turn Germany’s 2018 Poker Masters around after a dominating 2017 campaign. Germany has just one podium finish in 2018. Seth Davies near storybook run at this year’s Super High Roller Bowl failed to materialize. The INSIDERS star brutally bubbled his first $300,000 buy-in event. Soverel entered Poker Masters second on the High Roller of the Year leaderboard, but hasn’t added to his total since the summer. A 5th place or better finish moves him over the important 1,000 point mark.
A third place result moves Imsirovic into a tie with Poker Masters Championship Standings leader Brandon Adams. Back-to-back wins would put Imsirovic 150 points clear of the field heading into the final event of the series.
In our previous Today at the Poker Masters, we said that even if Imsirovic won Event 5, he’d still have to add to his total across the final two events of the series to truly contend for the Purple Jacket. We also said that may prove to be mission impossible. If Imsirovic wins Event 6, taking the Purple Jacket from him could prove impossible.
