The 2018 Poker Masters is officially underway. Over the next week, the world’s best will compete across seven High Roller events for the title of Poker Masters champion. The Poker Masters Purple Jacket awaits and “Today at the Poker Masters” will take you through the highest stakes week of the year with daily updates from the PokerGO Studio.
Last month, Brandon Adams said that if he had to choose, he’d skip the World Series of Poker Main Event to play Poker Masters. Today, Adams leads the Event 1 field into the first of seven live streamed final tables.
Joining Adams at the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em final table are some of the most successful High Rollers on the planet. Despite their previous successes, Rainer Kempe, David Peters, Isaac Haxton, and the rest of the Event 1 lineup lack one thing, a Poker Masters win. Adams has one from 2017 to go along with his chip lead.
That victory put an exclamation mark on Adams’ return to the high stakes arena and was good for a career best score. The win also set the stage for more High Roller success and today’s Event 1 final table will go a long way in setting the stage for the rest of Poker Masters.
With seven events set to crown the 2018 Poker Masters champion, an Event 1 result could be forgotten if players at today’s final table miss the mark through the rest of the series. Conversely, spotting high caliber players leaderboard points, and confidence, heading into the heart of the schedule could set Adams and his counterparts on a Goose-like run.
While Adams, Kempe, Peters, and Haxton likely plan on playing a full schedule, High Roller newcomer Cord Garcia is playing it by ear. Could a solid opening result motivate the 2015 Colossus winner to compete into next week? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure. Garcia belongs among the game’s elite.
High Roller elites will become Poker Masters contenders today.
