The return of High Stakes Poker to Poker Central as a relaunched series created a lot of excitement in the poker industry. For years, fans have been clamoring not only for the series to return but also for the classic episodes to be brought to fans in their entirety.

BRINGING THE ACTION
The best thing about High Stakes isn’t just that the biggest players turn up to play. The action is huge, and players frequently go all-in, putting stacks of high society on the line to such as extent that superstars such as Daniel Negreanu can be stuck six figures and spend half the series stuck, as he did back in Season 1 of the hit show.
With players such as Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth, Freddy Deeb all facing off against ‘Kid Poker’ in Episode 10 of the first series, there was bound to be a lot of drama, coupled with massive pots to be won… and lost.
Here is an overview of my favorite moments of the first season of High Stakes Poker!
QUADS ON THE RIVER
Everybody loves to see Phil Hellmuth lose a massive pot when he should be winning it, and with king-queen on a board showing two eights a queen and a deuce by the turn, The Poker Brat is looking confident. He’s feeling even better when a third eight arrives on the river to give him a full house. The only problem is that Barry Greenstein isn’t going anywhere… he’s got the case eight!
HELLMUTH IN ‘RAGE QUIT’ MODE
There’s nothing better than watching Phil Hellmuth lose a big hand, except perhaps watching him lose two big ones to the same opponent! Hellmuth is shot down by the arrows of the man known as ‘The Robin Hood of Poker’, Barry Greenstein in a hand where Hellmuth hits top two on the flop and is still behind!
NEGREANU BOTTOMS OUT
Daniel Negreanu is quiet through the opening exchanges of the episode, but he has to get involved when he has a flush draw from the flop against ‘Texas Dolly’ himself, Doyle Brunson. When Negreanu hits his flush on the turn, he can see dollar signs in front of his eyes, but unbeknownst to him, Brunson has more than enough reasons to stay in the hand right to the river.
IT ALL GOES INTO THE MIDDLE
A huge triple all-in gets the money into the middle as Antonio Esfandiari thinks he’s taking advantage of Phil Hellmuth’s mood and Eli Elezra’s ego. ‘The Magician’ has pocket aces, while Hellmuth is committed with pocket tens and Elezra has pocket jacks. The only problem for Esfandiari is that there are still cards to dodge on the way to the river.
