After swinging their way through California, the World Poker Tour heads to the other side of the country for the end of Season XV. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida will be home to three WPT events over the next week and a half, starting with the $3,500 buy-in Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. The $10,000 buy-in Seminole Hard Rock Poker Finale kicks off April 2nd and then the WPT Tournament of Champions begins on April 7th.

With so much WPT action jam packed into a massive SHRPO series, some may not be able to get time away from the felt but with tons of sports viewing options throughout the series, the short trip to Miami could be worth it for sports enthusiasts.

Miami Heat

At the time of publication, the Miami Heat are ranked 8th in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, which means they are in the playoffs, for now. That also means that every game from now until the end of the season is a meaningful one and the Heat have three home games during the WPT’s Seminole Swing. The New York Knicks head to American Airlines Arena on Friday, March 31st and the Denver Nuggets come to town on Sunday, April 2nd. The Heat then go on a three-game road trip but return on Monday, April 10th, to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James will lead the defending champions back to Miami, where he won two titles, and that game could decide whether the Heat get to continue their season in the playoffs.

Miami Marlins

After weeks of Spring Training, the Major League Baseball season is almost here but unfortunately, the Miami Marlins open their 2017 campaign on the road. Three-game stands in Washington DC and New York take up the first week of their season but then the Atlanta Braves come to town on Tuesday, April 11th for the Marlins’ home opener. The Marlins are then in Marlins Park for the better part of the next week, so if you plan on extending your WPT Seminole Swing stay, you can catch some Florida baseball before heading home.

Florida Panthers

While the Miami Heat are fighting for their playoff lives, the Florida Panthers won’t be making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They will play host to one of the best teams in the league on Monday, April 3rd though, when the Montreal Canadians come to town. Les Habitants have the best record in the Atlantic Division and the Panthers have two other home games during the WPT series, against the St. Louis Blues and Buffalo Sabers. Those teams aren’t going to be in the playoffs either but regardless, you’ll get to see 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr in action and that is worth the price of admission.

Miami FC

They aren’t the highest level of professional soccer in the United States, a Miami-based MLS team is still in the works, but Miami FC opens their NASL schedule at home against the New York Cosmos on Saturday, April 8th. The team plays their home games at Florida International University’s football stadium and while they may not have the star-power of MLS newcomers Orlando FC, who have Brazil’s Kaka as their Designated Player, the Cosmos come into Miami as back-to-back NASL champions.
