Scott Margereson Tops WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown on PokerGO

The World Poker Tour brought another great final table to PokerGO in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. The six finalists were the last remnants of a field of 1,309 with the large part of a prize pool of over $4.1 million to be fought over.

Scott Margereson emerged as a relative unknown to win the last $3,500 buy-in World Poker Tour event of Season XVI. Available only on PokerGO, Margereson waded through a 10-hour final table that included 232 hands to win the $696,740 first-place prize.

The fifth-largest WPT of all-time opened with Brian Hastings in the chip lead. Day 4 saw Hastings vault into pole position and open the last day with a lead over the likes of Matt Stout and Faraz Jaka.

There were plenty of exciting hands featured on the PokerGO live stream with Dave Farra and WPT Champions Club member Matt Waxman on the call.

Jeff Fielder fell in sixth place to Margereson and Matt Stout wasn’t far behind him. In an all-in preflop confrontation, Jaka went overboard to eliminate Stout with the two players owning identical chip stacks.

Joey Couden departed in fourth place. The Florida mixed game cash pro put forth a valiant effort but caught a few tough breaks to prevent him from hitting the podium. Set-over-set is the toughest of all tough breaks and that’s how Hastings took most of Couden’s chips.

Jaka took the last of Couden’s chips when his pocket kings held up against the queens of Couden to launch himself into the chip lead three-handed.

The former WPT Player of the Year entered heads up play against Margereson looking to capture his first WPT title. The two played back and forth for almost three hours before Margereson finally got the better of his American foe. It was the UK’s day in the Sunshine State and Margereson eeked out a victory against a game Jaka.

Margereson earns his seat into the season-ending Tournament of Champions where he is going to match up against Super High Roller Bowl entrant and L.A. Poker Classic winner Dennis Blieden.
