While most poker fans spent the summer submerged in PokerGO live streams and event replays of World Series of Poker events, tons of original content also debuted on poker’s premier subscription platform. That original content is available on-demand and after the first of many new Pokerography episodes dropped earlier this summer, the rollout continues with three more this week.

Pokerography gives fans a unique look into the lives of poker’s biggest names and the man that started it all, Chris Moneymaker, is the focus of the newest Pokerography episode. The 2003 WSOP Main Event champion is credited with revolutionizing the game of poker and igniting the poker boom, which has been referred to as the “Moneymaker Effect.”

Moneymaker’s 2003 victory changed the way poker was perceived and helped build the modern game of poker. The biggest reason, Moneymaker represented the “common man” and before he became the face of the poker boom, Moneymaker was relatively common.

From a young age, Moneymaker was surrounded by gambling. From blackjack to sports betting in college, Moneymaker has always had the gene and after some tough times at the University of Tennessee, Moneymaker graduated and turned his life around. The family man had a steady career as an accountant but more tough times followed.

Moneymaker lost his job after 9/11 and that is when he started playing online poker. In the spring of 2003, Moneymaker entered an online tournament, that turned out to be a satellite to the $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event. Moneymaker ended up winning the seat and then, as they say, the rest is history.
