Friday morning. It’s been a long week but you are almost there. Just a few more calls, one more meeting and then the weekend and freedom awaits. We know you need a little extra boost to get you through the final day of the workweek and luckily, Poker Central and Death Wish Coffee have you covered. The world’s strongest coffee gives you a “Morning Perk,” bringing you the best of the internet from the past week.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

The internet wasn’t around when Ferris Bueller gave everyone the perfect high school yearbook quote but his words are just as powerful today as they were in the late 80’s. The internet, more often than not, moves faster than life itself and while we’re sure we missed some of it, these were our favorites from the past week.

Movie trailers and release dates are no stranger to our weekly “Morning Perk” but most don’t fall under the hipster umbrella. The exception to that rule, anything and everything Wes Anderson. Earlier this week, the Academy Award nominee announced that his next film, Isle of Dogs, is set to release next spring, meaning fans must wait through a year of teasers and trailers before they see Anderson reunite with the likes of Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston and Jeff Goldblum. By the looks of the film’s poster, it looks like this will be Anderson’s first animated movie since Fantastic Mr. Fox, which would have won Anderson his first Academy Award, if it wasn’t for Disney’s Up.

We go from a movie that I can’t wait to see, to a song that I can’t wait to get overplayed on the radio. Summer anthems are usually just that, summer anthems and even though we are a few months away from the dog days of summer, I imagine this DJ Khaled and Justin Bieber single will be overplayed by Memorial Day. I’m a fan of the Biebs but this 25-second clip doesn’t exactly do it for me and I hope Katy Perry, Rihanna, or any other artist can save my #Summer17 playlist.

Did Chris Coghlan just end the baseball players aren’t athletic debate once and for all? The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder showed all sorts of athleticism earlier this week, jumping over the catcher and summersaulting onto home plate to avoid the tag and score the go-a-head run against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Jays ended up winning the game, thanks to Coghlan’s acrobatics, and even though the MLB season is still young, this has to be one of the best plays we will see this season.

Another smooth transition as we go from actual athleticism to virtual athleticism. Reports surfaced this week that Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick claims to have once held the 2nd best Wii Tennis score in the world. I didn’t even know Wii Tennis tracked scores but this seems like an odd claim to make if it weren’t true. Even if he is slightly exaggerating, you’d imagine Kalanick is pretty good at Wii Tennis but this sounds a lot like when my high school friends and I all thought we were the best Mario Super Striker players in the world. (Which we were.)

The NFL Draft is full of speculation, trades, booms and busts but it is also full of amazing stories. Takkarist McKinley, the UCLA defensive lineman turned Atlanta Falcon, is one of those amazing stories. McKinley grew up without his parents and was raised by his grandmother and before she passed away, he made her a promise. He was going to get out of his rough neighborhood, go Division I and make it to the NFL. The final step of that promise was fulfilled last night and even though she wasn’t there in person, McKinley carried her picture on stage to meet the commissioner and join the ranks of the National Football League. I may be a New York Giants/Las Vegas Raiders hybrid fan but I am certainly rooting for McKinley.
