The PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo replaces the EPT Grand Final as the exclamation point on the tour’s schedule with luxurious digs, high roller action and seven-figure payouts in one of the world’s most exclusive casino destinations – the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort.

Should the jet-set life of Monte Carlo get to be a too much, there’s several day (or longer) trip options that are easier on the wallet and showcases all the Rivera offers. All the cities are easily accessible by train or bus.

Nice – 35 minutes by Train
Nice, France beach
Nice has the largest airport of the region and it’s where most travelers will land. Trains leave the airport every 30 minutes to Monte Carlo 24 hours a day. The line is among the most scenic in Europe as it runs along the coast – be sure to grab a seat on the appropriate side for window gazing.

Nice is the most convenient getaway from Monte Carlo, but as such, can be pricey and is a city that requires energetic touring. It’s worth the effort with the old world architecture, churches and museums but a relaxing throwaway day at beach can be found elsewhere.

Antibes – 70 minutes by Train from Monte Carlo, 30 minutes from Nice

Antibes is a secret gem held by backpackers and rail riders that falls between Nice and Cannes. While millionaires and the elite flocked to the former, Antibes remained accessible to those on a budget. The city has the same beaches but at hostel prices and is the perfect answer for travelers that don’t feel guilty going somewhere to just lay on the beach.

Cannes – 80 minutes by Train
Cannes Marina
The home of the premier film festival in the world earned the right to host the event, in part, to the world-class marina that city boasts. The 2017 festival runs from May 17-28, so plan travel accordingly.

Isola, France – 3.5 hours by Train
Isola France
Isola found fame as a popular ski resort destination in the French Southern Alps and in the summer, offers some the best camping, hiking and outdoor sports the region offers. For the adventurous Shannon Shorr types, Isola is in the middle of the national park Parc national du Mercantour and everything from BASE jumping to free climbing can be found but will require at least a weekend.
