We are almost a quarter of the way through the year and with three months of results in the books, the Global Poker Index Player of the Year race is finally starting to take shape. Despite some movement throughout the Top Ten, the top of that leaderboard has remained the same for the better part of the last two months.

Bryn Kenney came out of the gates firing and continued to turn the Caribbean into his own personal playground. Kenney won a $50,000 High Roller and a $25,000 High Roller at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas series, while also notching final table results in the opening $100,000 Super High Roller and another $25,000 event. Kenney earned just shy of $1,800,000 at the PCB and since, he’s only added to his 2017 results list.

He’s cashed in four of seven ARIA High Rollers since the start of the year, including a runner-up finish in last night’s $25K event. Unfortunately, that finished won’t help him separate himself from the pack on the GPI POY Leaderboard, as the Global Poker Index has a minimum 32 entrant criteria for qualifying events.

Most ARIA High Rollers do meet that qualification though and with a sizable field building around Kenney today, the question might not be if Kenney will cash today, just for how much

The rest of the GPI Player of the Year Top Ten is filled with some of the more well respected High Rollers in the world, including a handful of players that have made ARIA appearances through the first quarter of 2017. Sergio Aido, who sits 3rd, played all three High Roller events at the start of the month but failed to find his way to the payout line.

Koray Aldemir, who will be participating in this year’s Super High Roller Bowl, was a member of the strong German contingent that came, saw and conquered at the start of the month. Bryon Kaverman, who was the 2015 GPI Player of the Year, is an ARIA regular and has one cash to his name this year.
