Grammy Winners Hit The Felt, Kinda

This weekend’s Grammy Awards had a little bit of everything. There was Cee Lo Green dressed in gold, Lady Gaga and Metallica sans a working microphone, 21 Pilots sans pants, Chance not once, not twice but three times, Adele dominating the podium and Beyonce reminding everyone that she is very, very pregnant with twins. Grammy winner’s music will be bumping in headphones nonstop over the next few weeks but will those tunes make their way to the poker table? Just like last week, thanks to some investigative reporting from last month’s PokerStars Championship Bahamas by our very own Remko Rinkema, we know what some of poker’s biggest names are jamming out to.

Kendrick Lamar untilted unmastered. – Nick Petrangelo

 

In a complete 180 degree turn from his karaoke performance, Nick Petrangelo has been on a Kendrick Lamar kick since he dropped untitled unmastered. in the spring of last year. The album might be significantly shorter than Lamar’s first two critically acclaimed albums, good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp a Butterfly, the former of which was snubbed by Macklemore on Grammy night in 2014 and the latter of which won Best Rap Album in 2015, but it is 34 minutes of untitled greatness. 

Daft Punk “Giorgio by Moroder” – Mustapha Kanit

While Mustapha Kanit said he prefers “his own voice” over music, he also mentioned that he likes “70s and 80s electronic music” but only songs that are “not too strong”. With no further expansion on his answer, we have to just assume that Kanit was talking about Italian singer, songwriter, DJ and record producer Giovanni Gorgio Moroder. Moroder has revolutionized electronic music for decades but most recently contributioned to Daft Punk’s 2013 Random Access Memories. The album won Record of the Year at the 2014 Grammys and pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music.

The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk “Starboy” – Jamie Staples

PokerStars Team Online and Twitch legend Jamie Staples and I likely agreed on the coolest performance of this weekend’s Grammys. The Weeknd performed a medley of his two hits “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming”, with Daft Punk, who is a featured artist on both tracks. “Starboy” has been in Staples headphones on repeat through the last few months and I’ll now spend the next few months hoping that this isn’t the only public Daft Punk makes in 2017.

Phil Collins “In The Air Tonight” – Noah Schwartz

While the High Roller says that he has a “plethora” of music that he listens to at the table, including everything from Linkin Park to some “ghetto stuff”, Noah Schwartz also admitted that his brain usually just sends him a signal and that’s what type of music he listens to for the day. On this day in question, during the PCB, Schwartz’s brain was signaling “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. Who knew Schwartz and Mike Tyson had so much in common?

Geto Boys “Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta” – Bryn Kenney

Last year’s Super High Roller Bowl 6^th place finisher Bryn Kenney says he hasn’t listened to music at the poker table in years. Instead, he has fun talking to people, mingling and making jokes. He doesn’t want to be in, as he puts it, his own world. We’d like to imagine that in Bryn Kenney’s world, “Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta” plays on an endless background loop.
