The 2018 Super High Roller Bowl is still over two months away, but that didn’t make Wednesday’s lottery any less exciting. The poker world now knows more than half the field for the $300,000 buy-in event, as 30 players locked up their seats live on PokerGO.

While the Super High Roller Bowl Lottery streamed, social media was abuzz with celebrations, disappointment, and hopefulness. Here were some of our favorite from the around the Twitterverse.

Adrian Mateos was one of the first names selected during the lottery and the reigning GPI Player of the Year was ecstatic to get his first shot at the “best tournament of the year.” The Spaniard was on the outside looking in last year, after missing out in the first Super High Roller Bowl lottery, but in 2018 he will have a chance to compete on the world’s biggest stage and add to his already lengthy resume.

From one of the first names called, to the last. Dan Shak had to sweat until the very end, but the businessman locked up his seat for a third-consecutive Super High Roller Bowl. In his previous two appearances, Shak has performed well. He cashed for $600,000 in 2016 and then came brutally close to making another final table in 2017. Unfortunately, Shak went out near the bubble last year, but with one of the best non-professional tournament resumes on the planet, Shak will always be a threat in the Super High Roller Bowl.

“The Goose” ran good during last year’s Poker Masters, but Wednesday was a different story for Steffen Sontheimer. The German High Roller busted out of Super High Roller Bowl China and then whiffed on a seat for the “real” Super High Roller Bowl. Luckily for Sontheimer, he has more than one more chance. Of the remaining 18 seats, 16 will be selected by ARIA and two are up for grabs through ARIA’s $10,000 Super High Roller Bowl satellite.

Over the last six months, Doug Polk has gone from poker professional, to CryptoTuber, to really, really nice guy on Twitter. This week, Polk went back to his roots and was one of the final players to deposit for the Super High Roller Bowl Lottery. His name was not drawn and his fate now sits in ARIA’s hands. Polk has said that he will not be playing many, if any, poker tournaments in 2018 and the Super High Roller Bowl could be the perfect one to showcase last year’s One Drop winner.

While Super High Roller Bowl China might not have been the “real” Super High Roller Bowl to Steffen Sontheimer, tell that to Justin Bonomo. The American High Roller was selected for Las Vegas’ $300,000 event and then beat a stacked field to take home the SHRB China title and a $4.8 million result. After final tabling last year’s real Super High Roller Bowl, Bonomo has confirmed that he is one of the best Super High Roller players in the world. Bonomo also is now in the all-time money list’s top-ten, ahead of players like John Juanda, Phil Ivey, and Phil Hellmuth.

Poker fans around the world will see Justin Bonomo, Adrian Mateos, Dan Shak, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and more when the Super High Roller Bowl begins on May 27. The entire tournament will be streamed live on PokerGO and Poker Central is your home for Super High Roller Bowl information, previews, and content over the next two months.
