The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open welcomed the top one percent in poker with their $50,000 Super High Roller on Wednesday and drew 28 entrants that juiced a $1.4 million prize pool. Five players returned for Thursday’s final table and a heads-up deal between Dietrich Fast and Adrian Mateos saw the event wrap up in under five hours.

Fast earned $483,693 and Mateos took $413,567 in a deal motivated by both players wanting to jump into Freezeout event with a $200,000 guarantee with the late reg clock ticking down.

Mateos led the field when they returned for Day 2 as the only player with a seven-figure count. Fast was close with 984,000, then Jason Koon, David Peters and Rainer Kempe rounded out the table.

Koon was the first to exit after he lost most of his stack holding pocket queens to Kempe, then losing a race holding sixes to Kempe’s ace king a few minutes later.

About 90 minutes later pocket sixes were unlucky again when Peters made his final stand. Fast held two over cards with king queen, hit top pair on the flop and Peters never improved to exit in fourth place.

2016 Super High Roller Bowl Winner and confirmed participant for the 2017 SHRB festivities, Kempe, was next out after a showdown with Fast. They built a sizable pot on the river of a Jc 9c 9d 5h 6s river, Fast set Kempe all in and the he went into the tank. Kempe finally called holding ace jack but Fast had him beat with trip nines.

While Kempe’s seat was still warm, Fast and Mateos agreed to deal to chop based on chip counts. Fast held 2.34 million to Mateos’ 1.15 million, both players wanted to play the $2,200 event and Fast snapped the winner’s photo before time ran out.
