Bonomo, Seiver Headline $10K Heads Up NLH Championship Sweet Sixteen

The $10,000 Heads Up NLH Championship at the World Series of Poker always brings out the game’s biggest names. This year was no different. 114 of the world’s best competed for bragging rights and a WSOP gold bracelet, but just 16 players advanced through Wednesday’s Day 1 session.

The early action was highlighted by a quick Phil Hellmuth elimination and Kane Kalas ending another John Smith run before it could even get started. Kalas now finds himself in the Round of 16, along with Justin Bonomo and Scott Seiver.

The former bracelet winners have had some of the toughest roads to the Sweet Sixteen. The Super High Roller Bowl champion had to beat Jake Schindler in the Round of 32 and Seiver defeated Dominik Nitsche in the Round of 64, before dispatching Ben Tollerene to advance to Day 2.

Triple Crown winner Niall Farrell, Galen Hall, Jason Mo, and Kahle Burns also punched their Day 2 tickets last night, but that doesn’t guarantee any of the remaining sixteen players anything. Day 2 opens on the bubble, with the Round of 16 winners locking up $31,086. The eventual champion will earn $185,965.
