To supplement PokerGO’s weekly World Series of Poker Main Event episode releases, the top hands from each year will be posted on Poker Central’s YouTube page and social media accounts. Those hands will then battle for the right to be dubbed “Hand of the Year.” Check out 2016’s best hands here and then subscribe to PokerGO to relive the entire 2016 WSOP Main Event.

Was there ever a doubt that the most talked about player and the most talked about hand from the 2016 WSOP Main Event would win Hand of the Year? William Kassouf dominated the headlines, the airwaves, and the tables, until kings versus aces did him in against Griffen Benger. Kassouf didn’t dominate PokerGO’s Hand of the Year poll though.

While “Nine High, Like a Boss” won out, James Obst’s legendary Day 7 fold was not far behind. The Australian conceded a full house to future November Niner Michael Ruane and was correct.

Three of the 2016 WSOP Main Event Hand of the Year nominees came from before the November Nine hit, but one from the final table was featured. That set over set encounter changed the landscape of the final table and the fate of arguably the most successful player remaining in the tournament. Although millions in equity changed in one deal, Cliff Josephy and Gordon Vayo didn’t poll well.

PokerGO’s WSOP Main Event rollout will cover every year from 2016 to 2011, with 2015 episodes hitting PokerGO this week. Stay turned for a 2015 edition of Hand of the Year and more WSOP Main Event content on Poker Central.
