The battle to become a poker champion comes from within. They are many obstacles and hours of hard work that must be dedicated in order to become the best in this game. Greg Merson spent years building himself into one of the best players in the world. Before Merson’s career peaked with his victory in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event, he had to overcome the demons within himself to turn his life around.

Today on PokerGO marks the release of the latest edition of Stories from the Felt with the premiere of “The Wake-Up Call.” Merson’s story of drug addiction and relapse is widely known and Merson has been forthcoming in the details of how sobriety saved his life.

“The Wake-Up Call” introduces audiences to a new facet of the story in how Merson’s friend and fellow poker pro Christian Harder was able to pull the future champ’s life out of a downward spiral.

Through interviews conducted with Harder and Merson, viewers are taken inside the ARIA hotel room where Merson hit rock bottom. Merson is composed for all of “The Wake-Up Call” up until he begins unfurling the story behind that fateful night. His tears show just how close he was to being over the edge.

The newest addition to the PokerGO catalog is a story of poker glory but also a testament to the power of friendship. Merson says himself he was waiting for someone to notice his addiction and thankfully for him, Harder did.

Coming into Day 3 of the WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic, Harder is still alive with the chance to win the almost $2 million first place prize on Sunday’s final table live stream.

Merson’s story is a fixture among the best personal comebacks in poker history and he is still playing at a high level five years after his victory.
